White Rock Lake Marathon Video: Kevin Lyons

Well, here it is...my 2008 White Rock Lake Marathon video, shot by my co-worker, Andrea Ahles....It was hard for Andrea to get in and out of some of the places because of the traffic (and they wouldn't let her get a good shot at the finish line), but there is good footage throughout. You can see how bad the wind was in places _ the lake was whitecapping at points. I told Andrea before the marathon to shoot everything, the good an the bad - she happily obliged, and so you can see that I am cramping so bad at the end of the marathon that I had to walk...WALK...across the finish line. So wimpy.

Hope you guys enjoy and Happy Holidays.

Great video, I had forgotten how windy it was. I guess I block out the bad experiences and just remember the good things!!

That was cool man - she did a hell of a job! I always thought about putting something like this together but never had the patience.

Hope you're not beating yourself up too badly - you ran a gritty race on a tough, tough day. You lived to fight another day so just kick some butt next time you lace up and don the singlet.

Enjoyed the video!

The video was terrific, Kevin. Tell Andrea she did a great job. It is inspirational to watch; the good, the bad, and the ugly. As long as it makes you want to come back for more (running, that is), it it worth it. Constant striving to do better. Runners must be eternal optimists, don't ya think?

Derek - how could you forget that wind?

Susan - thanks, but i wish i had your video expertise.

Vic - have fun abroad and bring back wine!

Billy - dude, arent you making a movie at the houston marathon? maybe thats an idea, we can go around shooting marathon videos for people, just like there are maraton photos. problem is, wed have to run them all the time.

TF - yeah, we are all eternal optimist, fogetting how bad it was, always thinking our best race is yet to come.

untpaw - im still waiting to read how you recovered from white rock...

Wow, super! Watched the whole thing. Congrats!

And you have such a deep voice... I don't know why that surprised me.

Yes, Andrea is a great friend!

I love the video! Andrea did a really awesome job with it. What is up with the dude carrying those balloons? I can't hold a thing while I run!!

You looked great throughout...I saw you running even at mile 21, so you were really trying to persevere throughout the race.

And not wimpy crossing the finish the way you did! You were hurt!! I just read someone's race report who tried to run through shin pain and BROKE HIS TIBIA and some other bone in the foot. He's out for MONTHS.

But regardless, I did notice you trotted over the finish. :-)

Great, great video!!!!

rodney, jenny, dawn - thanks for the kind words. i'm goingto whip this cramping thing and one day run the whole way.

moot point: yeah, at first, that guy was hold a cardboard sign (he was the 3:20 pacer guy.) but the wind blew the cardboard away, so they all had balloons. in that wind, it was the only thing they could do. an absolutely crazy day.

She did well! Would have been hard to get around the course and pick you out of the crowd. Did look windy out there.

I hope you beat the cramps in the next one.

i finally sat down and watched your video - it is great! i would love to be able to have something like this to look back on an old race/races. andrea did a great job and i'm sure you enjoy having these memories, even if the race didn't go as planned. you learned lessons that will certainly help next time around on your way to a huge pr!

Wow Kevin!! That was so inspiring. Especially because I have been slacking with the running lately.... these holidays and travel and yeah, more excuses.

I haven't done any runs since the Turkey Trot - you were there too?! Still, I don't see myself doing a marathon. Sprint triathlon, yes. Marathon... um, no. You go!

Thanks for reading and thank you for your inspiration. I'm going to run AND cycle tonight. :)

And we should totally meet. We aren't that far apart ya know...

Kevin,
I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I just now watched your video! It's great; Andrea did an amazing job. And seeing it now, after seeing you get faster and faster since this race, is pretty cool too.
