White Rock Marathon: Race result

4:08:34

Not the time I had hoped for, and still haven't found an answer to the cramps, which started at mile 16 and made the last three miles a death march. But it was a brutally warm (temps in the 70s at the end) and windy day (20 mph headwind, gusts in the 30s). And this time is 1 hour, 12 minutes faster than last year's disaster, and a PR by 33 minutes. So, I'm very happy about that.

Anyways, I'm recovering and will write a race report later tonight.

Tragic side note: A woman from Austin collapsed at mile 21 and died later at a Dallas hospital. Organizers say it was the first time anyone has died at the White Rock Marathon.

Hey, you did good. Cramps get in the way and once they set in, there is nothing we can do about them. Your time was really good and a PR nevertheless. Congratulations!

Congratulations on your PR. I did okay on my 1/2 marathon, and now have the marathon monkey on my back. The First Light Marathon is one month away. Hmmm......

Congrats on your PR, Kevin! I was thinking about you this morning as I was running, and hoping all was well. I'm sorry it wasn't quite as great as you wanted, but a 33 minute PR is still VERY impressive. I have no doubt you'll reach your goal in your next race.

Good job! I was thinking about you today-- I went out of town this weekend and didn't get a chance to send you a good luck message yesterday. But I'm glad to hear you did well and I can't wait to read your race report!

Great job getting a PR. The conditions were tough today. I saw a lot of runners having a really bad day out there. You should be very proud of the time you ran.

I'm sorry it didn't go as well as you hoped for Kevin. That's a real shame about the weather.

Regarding the cramping, salt tabs work well once you have them (but better not to get them in the first place). An ultra mate of mine reckons magnesium supplements work well to prevent them. Look through some of the ultra blogs for what various people use. Try things out on long runs to see what works for you.

What a way to smash a PR! Awesome, Kevin!

(And what sad news about the woman who died!)
